Securing the Global eSIM Ecosystem: GSMA SAS-UP Compliance and Remote SIM Provisioning Cryptography

Analyzing the technical architecture of GSMA SGP.22 and SGP.32 standards and implementing certified profile encryption vaults.

The Scale of Remote SIM Provisioning

With over 3 billion active connected devices projected by 2030, mobile operators must generate, encrypt, and provision hundreds of millions of eSIM profiles annually. The GSMA Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS-UP) enforces stringent physical, cryptographic, and operational requirements on facilities handling these credentials. TelecomHSM delivers out-of-the-box SAS-UP compliance.

Cryptographic Protocol Flow of eSIM Profile Download

During profile provisioning, the SM-DP+ server and target eUICC establish a mutual authentication session using ECKA (Elliptic Curve Key Agreement). TelecomHSM generates ephemeral session keys and encrypts the profile package using AES-CBC/AES-GCM, wrapping it into an immutable Bound Profile Package (BPP).

IoT eSIM Deployment at Scale (GSMA SGP.32)

Next-generation IoT devices lack screens and user interfaces, requiring centralized fleet provisioning. TelecomHSM supports the GSMA SGP.32 standard, allowing automotive OEMs and smart city operators to push bulk carrier profile swaps across millions of deployed IoT devices simultaneously.
